My Story
Pauline was born 18 February 1955, into a working class family. She was the youngest of three and they lived in a mining village, New Silksworth, in Sunderland, what was then County Durham.
By 11, the family had moved to East Herrington and Pauline started her new life with some old friends, attending Robert Richardson Technical Grammar School.
Even though she was so young, at twelve her dad taught her how to do his accounts, he had his own milk business and she also assisted her mum when she catered for weddings. Pauline helping with the preparation and waiting on at the weddings.
As soon as she was old enough, she got herself a Saturday job in the local Binns department store, which put her in good stead when at 16 she applied and started working in the local Midland Bank, where she worked for the next sixteen years.
At thirty two, Pauline left to have her first son, Steven and enjoyed the next six years, being a stay at home mum, now doing her husband’s accounts.
May 1992, she and her husband bought and ran the Pullman Lodge Hotel, in Seaburn, with the help of forty staff, they ran a very successful business. It was full on, seventeen hours a day, seven days a week. However, it took its toll!
In August 1994, Pauline was overjoyed to welcome the arrival of her second son, Paul. She wasn’t sure how she did it, but she managed to fit in motherhood with running the business. For Paul’s early years, she took her office home, never having a day off, somehow managing to juggle work, with running a home and caring for family and two widowed mothers. It wasn’t easy by any means and her health suffered.
In 2006, divorce forced them to sell and go their own ways.
The same year, Pauline started a new chapter in her life, as she signed up for full time education, at the local college and spent the next year learning and training to be an holistic therapist, qualifying in reflexology, Indian head massage, Swedish body massage and aromatherapy.
This lead her to be invited to train as an Angelic Reiki Master, progressing to Grand Master.
November 2012, Pauline knew it was time to take care of her ninety two year old mum, who she took to live with her. She also had to cope with the attempted suicide of Steven, who was suffering from deep depression due to illness, bullying in the workplace & mental abuse from his then partner.
Life was not easy!
October 2013, more changes, her mum went into a care home, she needed more care than Pauline and carers were able to give, Steven, now fully recovered, was offered a job in Dubai and Pauline sold her home and moved to Weardale in the December.
Steven moved to Dubai 1st Jan’14, her mum died 6th February and in the May Paul was also offered a job in Dubai and moved out 29th August’14. Pauline was now on her own!
6 August 2016, Steven died in a freak road accident.
13 June 2018, Pauline underwent open heart surgery.
2019, Cov’d 19 happened, Pauline didn’t see a friend for 9 months nor her son Paul for two years, Dubai was a ‘red’ zone! It was hard! And to top it all she lost her beloved Alfie, her Shih Tzu, who had been her companion for the past fourteen years.
She knew it was time to move back to Sunderland, near hospitals, her health had deteriorated drastically during the Cov’d years and was still going downhill.
Her first action was to find the best G.P. In the area, then she noticed a flat available in Retirement Independant Living. Pauline had no backup, so she thought it was the wisest solution. In July ‘22, she moved back to Sunderland.
Over the coming year, it proved priceless as three times she had to call 999.
2024, after enduring a severe virus which had effected her lungs, she decided as her health was deteriorating, it was time to take charge of her own health, she researched, got out in nature, meditated and changed her diet. Sugar was out, as was coffee, she doesn’t drink nor does she smoke but also made various other changes to her lifestyle. She spoke up when having consultations with the cardiologist and reviews, asking if she could stop certain medications. She also went to the healing service held in her local church, once a month. Slowly, she saw a U-turn in her health, she had more energy, the brain fog and lethargy were no more, she was sleeping well.
She thought it was time to volunteer and so she chose to work in the RNLI shop, overlooking the sea. She was serving a greater cause and having the pleasure of the view of the sea, a big bonus for her. She also joined an art group and got more involved at church. Her mantra was ‘Let go and let God!’
By the time her seventieth birthday came round February 2025, Pauline was feeling the best she had done in a long time.
She is certainly a good advert for what she advices. She is living proof it works and shares her tips and advice whenever and wherever she can! Her aim is to serve the greater good.
My writing journey
Only Dead Fish Go With The Flow was the beginning of my journey, how I survived divorcing a narcissist; to getting the call at 3am to tell me my son, Steven was dead. This was a completely different journey through trauma, grief and so much more, with lots of other precious nuggets thrown in.
I go on to share my spiritual knowledge in An Angel In My Pocket.
My 3rd book Turn Your Life Around 2nd edition, was written to update the first edition after delving deep into personal development, which I had written as a Manual for Life. I share my 70 years wisdom, knowledge and some of my personal life experiences, observations & discoveries.
And finally my 4th book What Lies Behind The Smile was where I wanted to demonstrate how even in your darkest moments, there is a greater force at play and how I truly believe I have a direct line with God. I tell you of my personal experiences, what I have endured and how I could see God working, supporting, guiding and loving me throughout my life.
In all my books I teach you how you can alchemise pain into power, the choice is yours.
When you change your mindset from being the victim into being the victor and changing negative thoughts to much more positive ones, seeing the lessons you are being taught. It is only then that you see miracles happen, you start to go inwards, do the work on yourself and evolve into a better person, who starts to live their best life.
I want to be of service to each and every one of you, enabling you to live your best life. Never just make do, put the effort in and live your best life, the one God intended for you.
So please, I invite you to come on this transformational journey with me. A one where you’ll never look back, instead you will look forward with gratitude, love and hope in your heart, enjoying every day, every encounter and being grateful for the people in your life and the lessons they bring.
Everything has a purpose, nothing is by chance. Embrace, enjoy and be thankful. Let go and let God! God bless you.
